"I currently work as a Sales Engineer at a high-growth tech company called Tamr. Located in Cambridge, MA, Tamr uses human-guided machine learning to unify and clean data for large companies in order to enhance their analytics. My focus area in cognitive science was artificial intelligence, and the computer science classes I took for my COGS degree have proved extremely helpful in my work. Equally helpful have been the more philosophical COGS classes: they developed my ability to think analytically and big-picture about highly technical concepts, and this sort of critical thinking is essential to effectively explaining and demonstrating the value-add of Tamr to potential customers, a core part of my role.
Another thing I really appreciate from my COGS major is the philosophical and neuroscientific literacy I developed: I can more or less stay informed on and continue my education in the cognitive science topics I find interesting with a quick perusal of google scholar. I really drank the Kool-Aid on the whole 'study what interests you' idea, and so far it's worked out!"
