Welcome Brian Fiala!

Brian Fiala is our newly-arrived postdoctoral scholar that will help us run this rapidly-growing program. Please see Brian for any major advising questions. Fiala has a philosophy PhD from University of Arizona, where he trained with the preeminent cognitive scientist Shaun Nichols, who visited Dartmouth last year to co-teach our new Introduction to Cognitive Science course. Brian previously held a position at Washington University as a Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology (PNP) postdoc.

His current works in progess are: “Debunking Belief in an ‘Explanatory Gap’ for Consciousness”, “Minds, Swarms, and Programs: Explaining Our Blindness to Intelligent Collectives”, “Measuring Consciousness: Lessons from the History of Thermometry”, “How (and Why) We Underestimated Plant Intelligence”
